Sometimes the emmisions systems fail, and are expensive to replace. Some people don't want to pay a lot to replace them so they take them off.

you gain a few horses but moreover it will improve acceleration.

Depends on what emissions equipment you remove, but most will do nothing to improve performance. Things like the EGR only work when cruising, so any acceleration or full throttle inputs would keep it from actuating anyway.

On the other hand, I am removing multiple emmissions equipment on my track car to minimize clutter under the hood. I am also assuming by removing the the swirl control system completely it should increase intake plenum airflow. But that's just an assumption with no data to support it

We removed emissions from our Circle track car just so ther is less to go wrong. And ofcourse any hoursepower gain is welcome.

If you drive your car a lot Iam sure our environment would appreciate it if the emissions were left on. We drive our car less than 10 miles every two weeks so less impact than a daily driver.

Just my two cents.
