This thing right here, at idle is rattling, when I shut the pipe going towards the filter/airbox the rattle stops.

It looks completely useless and emissions related to me. What is the technical name for it and is it some kind of diaphragm construction?

So I could dump this tomorrow ad then plug the line going to the downpipe, but just checking.

Lastly:

Right by where the charge pipes are, there is a rubber line that is coming upwards and connects to the inlet piping on the underside by the maf. I only had a quick peak just wondering what it is?

Thanks for any informative answers.

The top one is the AIV (Or EAI if you're reading the Japanese manual) system. It lets air bypass the cylinders at idle to help light the cat off. Most LHD swaps have to omit it because the piping interferes with steering. From the looks of your hard lines, I'd say you have a silvia or a 180. You can remove the unit, just make sure you plug up the hole on the intake side that feeds it and either make something to plug the hole on the O2 sensor housing, or I believe Nissan had a bolt for a Z32 that fits it perfectly (I posted a part number for it up in the parts guide a looooong time ago)

I can't see the hose you're talking about, but if it's connecting to the rubber tube going from the MAF to the compressor inlet, it's from the stock bypass valve (blow off valve)

Hijacker can you find the part number? I had a look, but not knowing the technical name made it a little hard for me to pick it out among tons of numbers.Much appreciated.
