I am curious as I build up the project car (86 200SX XE hatch -->CA18DET JDM/EU):
How do the mid east people pass emissions. I live in Delaware, where there are 3 emissions stations (only three DOTs here). I am pretty sure when they look at the car, they dont know what they're actually looking at. I am going to swap in the CA18DET BUT I was planning on masking as a CA18ET and keeping the boost down with a replacable but restrictive CAT on the car. They wont look at the ECU cause its too old for DE and I can tag for 2 years, but I was wondering what the emissions output should be for the car and what precautions I should take in passing it other than a bribe.
I know PA, NJ, and MD have pretty restrictive laws on their emissions, but I see turbo'd swaps around all the time. What are the strategies? I wont be doing a test of it until around september when I have what I want completed.
Other question is, I'm rebuilding the CA20E in the car for now and getting it on the road for my beater to iron out the little bugs over time. What about the CA20E engine can be saved for a future turbo build because if the block is the same, it also can be rebuilt with a new DOHC head and some other parts.
I cant wait to get a front clip so I can start, I think the S12 is the coolest in comparison to the common S13's i see here (though mechanically they're pretty solid). Can anyone tell me what the rear of the 86 S12 is and what is swappable to have an LSD in the rear of that car? Is it already some kind of open diff?
thanks
