Car: should be obvious enough

first, make sure the fuel cap is on all the way. then, go through your ECU codes.

eswifti checked the cap, it is tight. i dunno much about ecu scenario, but when go through ecu, it should give me a precise readout as to whats wrong?

do i ask the mechanic if he can do a ecu checkout on my car?

Evaporative emission testing [gas cap tightness only applies to OBD2 [96 and later].

On {90-95} Q don't think of the check engine light as primarily emission related, but as a sensor or system malfunction light!Telling you something SERIOUS is wrong.

Taking the car to a mechanic instead of a Infiniti trained certified technican is a sure way to NOT find out whats wrong as a mechanic assumes mechanical things are wrong.

All the things that illuminate the check engine light are electrical in nature.Unless the engine is making a terrible noise.

Semantics: but the use of the word mechanic has no place on this forum

that could be an injector-

dennis, cant he pull most of the codes off the ECU at home? it could very well be an easy fix.

Wiggle the MAF, crank angle, and TPS connectors before you check the codes.Pulling the codes is nice but at home you don't have spares.

So few items turn the check engine light on [ on 90-95 Q] that you can check most of them in a few minutes.

Sounds like the CAS or MAF to me. Check them at idle. Any change in idle speed while wiggling the connector is a sure sign of a problem.

Definately sounds like an electrical connection. Have you checked the MAF and CAS connections yet?

Ignore the adjustment instructions... but the CAS and MAF are labeled.

Q451990thanks for the pix. I fussed around with maf and noticed there was a small portion that was covered in black glue like substance near the connection.

it could be that it had problems in the past? But, today the engie light came on only once then it went away quickly.

it's been a strange day.....
