For those who have done the swap and live instates that require emmissions testing how did you pass. Do the sr20det come pretty close w/o any help in meeting the emission tests, if not what did you to get it to pass. Also has anyone ever heard anything about StreetImports.com. They seem to have some decent prices on their engines and even sell half cars.

Hmm a little research would solve your Qs...hit the search button. But since im relaxed and sipping a corona, i might as well answer ur questions--the SR will never pass emissions testing. The BONE stock SR runs a little cleaner than the ka, however if you run it with no cat youl fail (witch everyone does)-and no matter what you will fail visual. Basically you have to either not get is smoged ever or pay somebody off. Those are the only ways.

what exactly is the sniffer test, do they put some sort of meter up to your exhaust pipe? if they did that you could make some sort of fake exhaust and have like a heater that blows warm air out, but i guees they would sort of think something was up with that

It depends on the facility, some, the easier facilities, use a tailpipe sniffer, other more advanced facilities use a O2 sensor, the O2 sensor is much more accurate, but less places use it. Good luck setting up a fake exhaust for people who all they do is test exhaust fumes. =P

Bad things happen when you get pulled over and fail to pass emissions.Worse things happen if the officer finds out you falsified your emissions test by only using your cat for the test.

If you split the exhaust they will just connect their other hose to the second pipe. If they don't, the machine will probably read a low flow condition and not test the vehicle.
About the only way you would get caught in Georgia for illegal mods. is if you got caught bribing somebody, or if you got busted for racing.
As a side note, GA runs cars on the dyno while they are being checked. Works out well for ya if your idle is rich.

how many horses does no CAT add?
also, a lot of places don't run visuals even in CA. They're just too damn lazy, especially us wonderful socal bums...so if you ARE able to pass sniffer a lot of places will conclude ur engines clean. also, a lotta ppl who get a SR20 swap usually get to pass emissions at that shop too. sort of a courtesy thing.

perpetual gyro wrote:what if you make a custom dual exhaust, so the sniffer could only be stuck up one pipe, thus cutting in half the volume of exhaust gas ejected.
that or just slap on a heavey duty cat for the test.
i have a dual exuast AND worked at a place that did emmisions testing. I was there when i got my car tested and all they do is stick a lump of rags in one pipe and force all the exaust gases out of the other pipe with the sniffer in it.

oh well. just tossing up some ideas. I'll probably just throw on a cat when i get the annual tests..it's a pain in the butt, but really my only failsafe option. thanks fellas,.
