Emission control check

Hi everybody,
I'm from Alberta(Canada) and I like to ask about emission control system check. I have Rogue S 2008 and my dealer left me a message on the phone that I have to perform this check( they want 250$ for this ). So please, if anybody knows when this check needs to be done - time or km, please answer.

I can't help you on that one, you'd have to ask your dealer what he's talking about. If he calls you out of the blue and tells you that you need to come perform this check, he needs to give you a lot more detail, ask him what prompted this.

There has to be more to this story that we're missing, dealers don't just randomly call up car owners and tell them they must come down for a $250 emissions test. I live in Lethbridge, AB and I've never heard of any requirement to regularly test vehicle emissions systems, perhaps there are new regulations for older vehicles as part of a safety certification but your car is close to new.

I'd recommend asking your dealer for a lot more details, starting with what prompted this phone call.

I think the whole thing sounds fishy to me. My rogue has 50k miles, never performed anything like this before. Make sure you are not taken advantage of.

There is no 'required' emissions testing in AB.

However, the lower mainland of BC, Canada has had mandatory emissions testing (Aircare) since 1992. In Southern Ontario, Canada, we have had emissions testing (Drive Clean) program in place since 1999.
