Post

Ok so a few days ago My Girlfriend and I were looking for cars. Something nice and used and so on. Found a dealership that has a 93' 240SX, White, convertable, 99735, No visable damage (Who knows about the interior though) http://www.towerautos.com/details1.cfm?vehicle=878 So right away I feel in love with it. She said "thats pretty, I like it" So i was excited. She then left for work and I spent 10 hours online looking up everything about this car, found this amazing forum. Found everything i could about it. Bascially Eating all the info I could find. Then today whiile taking a walk to the corner store, I was talking about the car, Like and excited little boy, telling her when can afford the down payment in 2 weeks. Then she says "This is such a bad choice, arnt convertables not good in the snow and rain" And basically was telling me that she dosent want us to get it and her friend is selling her Honda civic or some undesirable car. So I need help, Can anyone give me some advice on how to win her over on getting the car, any good talking point will help!! Thank you sooooooooo much.

well indians3452, I have that same car, same color. exept I only paid $2000 for it and it was in good condition. (i would look for a better deal.) well the car is GREAT. its rear wheel drive, so you do need some getting used to, to drive in the snow, if all you ever drove was a front wheel drive. But i can say its much easier to dive it in the snow, than a FWD. basically like any other car, BE CAUTIOUS AND DRIVE SLOW IN THE SNOW & RAIN. I go about 20mph to 30mph in the snow and stay about a truck's length from any other car. Same in the rain. Its a light car, so it can skid far when you brake hard. Well with all that said. I have no regrets about my car.I live in LI, New york(lots of traffic). And i have owned the car for about 3 years now. Hope this helps you think things over, Plus you might have more fun in it, than your girlfriend.

I drove a 2000 chevy surburban for 3 years, so yeah this is new to me. Thanks for that, I deffently can win her over by telling her other people use it in the snow, I live in albany, and we get alot of snow but since its a city its cleared pretty fast. thanks alot.

The car in question is a '93. I own a '92.

I'm suspicious about this seller 'cuz the ad claims the car has a 6-cylinder engine. That set off my BS detector.

The ad also claims that the car has anti-lock brakes and airbags--driver and passenger.

Is that also a false claim?

Regulars please chime in.

I agree with distant240sx: the price is too high for the miles. Add that to my BS detector issues, and I'd pass on this car. We'd love to have you in the 'vert family though.

Yes I did notice that but I also noticed that the Vin isnt on it and almost all the cars have the same description. I'm Going to call and ask them what is Gong on. I have studied the past 3 days everythign about this car so I wont be taken advantage of. Thank you for that god how could I be so stupid. I was just to over excited about the fact that I might be owning 240SX vert. Thanks alot man.

240SX verts are a bit quirky, and to be honest, I would not have one as my main car if I required totally dependable transportation or needed to drive it in the winter much.

They need to be fixed from time to time due to their age, they suck bad in the snow unless you get nice snow tires, and they even suck in the rain if your tires are worn or you are not a careful driver. Also, the automatic transmission shifts horribly.

If you can live with those things, find a cheaper one and welcome to the club.

Bah, they ain't that bad Mike. The only real problems I've had with mine are brakes and a slight oil leak. I'll admit the RWD is sucky in snow, but it's not too terribly hard to keep it together if you're careful. I started driving with my 240 the very beginning of fall and only lost control in snowy weather once. Come to think of it, that's the only time I've truly lost control. My damn tires are beasts and just will not lose traction. Makes for a sucky drift car I guess :p

But yeah...talk the dealer down and buy it. It'll grow on you.

There was something else i noticed in that ad... Air Condtioning... Mine doesnt have it. I think that was the whole purpose of the "convertible" part... why do u need ac when you can put the top down? lol unless I just happend to get shafted. I was once told that no convertibles that came from the factory have it or am i wrong?

It just poured the other night and when i woke up in the middle of the night i though to myself "****, the whole damn interior is going to be soaking wet" (bc sometimes when i take my car to the carwash it leaks a lil bit) but when i got up that morning, it was still pouring but there were no leaks i was VERY happy!

I am looking forward to driving mine in the snow, but then again when it does we dont get that much. i drove my rx7 around last year and it was a blast. I <3 RWD!!!

When i got my vert or i should say BEFORE i got it... i loved the look of them but i wasnt quite sure about it, i was very skeptical. BUT im glad i listend to my bf and went ahead and got it.. its a BLAST! I thought 2400 was too much for mine but i never realized how many of these things were around... not that many.. but idk if id pay 4g's for one. it had better be in tip-top condition and not have a scratch in it! I think id offer them less... When I went to look at mine they wanted 3600 for it and look what i talked them down to and i had no problem talking the guy down... I think once she drives it around with some of her friends and they tell her how fun it is she wont want to get rid of it! Now that i have mine everytime me and my bf get ready to go somewhere he always asks me what we are taking and if i say i dont care he heads for my car and then he puts the top down... lol.

you shouldnt have a problem talking her into it. just test drive it! she should realize then and not want to leave it! If she doesnt... id say your gonna have a hell of a time convincing her then

You need a/c when you live in a place with ridiculous humidity. Lots of verts have a/c.

I hate RWD cars in the snow. I used to live in MN, though, so the basis for my opinion comes from that experience.

Trust me...there are times i'm glad I have AC. I only do top down driving in the morning or evening...during the middle of the day it's way too hot.

You're supposed to do top down + a/c on when it's hot.

Y'all are just babies...the only times I wish my AC worked is when it is pouring so hard I just can't have the top down anymore and it's like 70+ outside.

Really do wish that darned thing worked though....would make life easier >_>

... but, you live in Scranton, PA. How often do you sit in traffic when it's 90+ degrees and 90% humidity? I'd imagine that combination happens about once in a lifetime there.

Well here's a little known fact. I have the darkest skin of all the vert owners on here...trust me on this. I have medium brown skin complexion and if I stay out in direct sunlight too long...I get as dark as my dashboard...not to mention that I sweat like a pig. I look like a hot mess...feels like i'm melting.

TMI...yeah I know.

Not so bad with the top down though. Just wish I had a boot to protect my poor top...
slip69 wrote:i never have had to use the a/c, but i have used the heater with the top down
I do that sometimes. I love going out and seeing the last showing of movies which usually comes out to 10-10:30 and some nights tend to be cold with the top down.

You ever been up here? Scranton isn't real bad, but I went down to Wilkes today and that was pretty awful at times. Most of the time I just end up on one of the many, many two lane roads around here stuck behind some slow going Honda.

Yeah it sounds like an awesome buy. I got my convertable 240sx for $2800. Which was great! But i have had an accident with mine but havn't hit anybody. Thank goodness! But now i know to be carefull in the rain because this thing is a really light car and can slide easily like the guy said. People have said mine is the best 240sx they have seen with a straight body and in good condition. Which makes me happy. So look on craigslist in ur area, just go to http://www.google.com haha. Type in ur city first and then craigslist. You then can type in 240sx convertable. And Find some good matches. Hopefully you have chosen to get such a great car like that one.
