Jiffy Lube... NO! Those guys have kids from highschool getting paid minimum wage to work on your car. I'd recommend Walmart as opposed to Jiffy Lube, that's if you don't know how to do it yourself.

For oil, I personally used Amsoil, better then any other oil hands down. Other's prefer Mobil 1 full synthetic which is readily available at most auto parts stores. I'd recommend getting the Mobil 1 oil filter as well.

Overal I'd do it myself so I know whats going on, when someone else do it, you never know what can happen or what went on.

One more thing, I use 5w30 for non turbo applications and 10w30 for turbo applications. If you don't care how long your engine lasts, then get anything that is 5w30. If you want reliabiltiy with longevity, Full synthetic (about 75% synthetic) or Amsoil which is 100% synthetic.

Ok, some people like to run 15w-40 or higher for reasons unknown to me, but heavier isn't necessarly better. Thinner pumps easier and covers better.

Hmm i heard that some engines that have run on regular oil (non-synthetic) all there life and suddenly change to synthetic will have problems like oils leaks and stuff.

Is this true ?

I have castrol High-mileage 10w-30 (i have 195k) right now.

Has anyone tried Redline synthetic motor oil ? would Mobil 1 be better ?

I've yet to see a problem from switching to synthetic from dino oil regardless of mileage.

That said, using synthetic oil on a KA24 is a complete waste of money. Use whatever 10w30 oil you can get cheapest and call it a day.

Oil changes w/ filter should not cost you more than $6 or so to do yourself on a KA.

synthetic oil does leak more but is much better for your engine. if you have a leak thats about to start synthetic will find it. but if you dont have a turbo or anything and its not a new engine just use reg oil. 5-30 or 10-30. i like castrol my corollla has 273k on it with regular castrol.

I agree with pretty much all he said. If you drive your car like a normal person, just get a quality name brand 10w30 dino oil and be done with it.

I personally use redline 10w30 on my 115k mile motor, but i drive it like i stole it most of the time, so i need all the help i can get .

#1 killer of KAs is poor maint, not cause you use brand X oil vs brand y.

If your car burns a bit of oil (blue smoke). You can try running 10w40 or something thick to keep the burning to a minimum. But you will be losing performance with this thick oil.
