Car: the usual

its a 90 5spd hatch, the car wont start anymore.. it cranks forever but never actually starts. im about 80% sure its an ignition/spark issue. so what does that leave me to check??? the distributor, ignition coil, plugs/wires? starter and battery are new.. cap, rotor, and wires are new. plugs are a lil old but they do look ok. im gonna spark test 'em later this afternoon. occasionally, WHEN the car decides to start, i smell tons of fuel.. a friend had suggested i might have bad injectors. its a possibility, but i dont see how that would make the car do what its doing.. not ever starting. ive changed the MAF as well, so its getting air, clearly plenty of gas.. so that leaves spark. i need help, its the only car i have and im in deep **** if i dont get it running ASAP.

My problem wasn't "exactly" the same, but maybe/hopefully this will help:

Try checking your ignition coil for voltage w/ a multimeter when you are starting the car (you need 2 ppl obviously).

I was wiring my remote start and all I got was cranking but no starting. I then realized I was not supplying power to the ignition coil.

Just a thought. Hope you get ur car up and running soon.

O yea, every time you crank your car, wait at least 15 secs before trying again to save starter life.

As for the fuel smell, I'm guessing since your car is not starting, fuel gets pumped in and just sits there a while, so when you finally do start, you get a lot more fuel than normal.
