Ok, I installed a short shifter on my old S14 and all I had to do was remove the 6 bolts holding the shifter onto the transmission.

In my S13, I removed the 6 bolts, and the snap ring, and pulled the shifter lever out. But the plate that the 6 bolts go through(the control cover) is stuck on the top of the transmission. How do I get it off?

I can't drive anywhere until I get this figured out and I don't know what to do!

Please Help!

I tried to pry it off w/ a screwdriver but it wouldnt budge and I bent the metal around the hole exposing the transmission.

Do I need to just put more effort?

use a hammer and tap the side of the plate with quick wrist snapping motions. If that doesnt work, get a razor knife and cut the space between the plate and the transmission. Careful not to score the transmission half.

are you sure you got the bolts in the front portion of the plate? Im not sure if there are normally 6 or 8 bolts but there are two up front that are a beyotch to get to.

If you did, just keep working at it. Try to avoid prying: tap the thing from the sides as much as you can, it'll come off.

Yup there are 2 more bolts at the front which can only be accessed under the car... applies to both S13 and S14. I think there are total of 6.. not 8

There are 6 bolts holding the control cover on the transmission.

I tried tapping it loose but it didn't work.

I'm going to try and put it back together for now.
