handle is broke - doesn't seem to screw off - no set screw - don't want to destroy what is left of handle before I take radical action and weld cross bar for a handle. Any Datsun/Nissan enthusiast out there able to help this old Dog?

I could very well be wrong, but I think that the handle and the control stem (the notched metal rod, Nissan calls it a "control stem" in the FSM) is one piece, and not meant to be removable. I checked the factory service manual, and the rod and handle are removed and installed together; an exploded parts diagram shows it as a complete assembly as well.

Thank you very much for your time and help - for now I guess my mini vice grip 'gerry rig' will have to be semi-permanent. :) Thanks again, papa t
