Has anybody had that issue?

Over the last month on occasion I hear a LOUD noise like a plane is about to land, as I'm rolling like if I'm slowing down or about to park the car. It doesn't do it in reverse or when I pick up speed going forward...only when I'm slowing down/rolling.

So I take it to the dealership. The first time they couldn't find anything. This time they said it's the emergency brake disk. Both sides are going to be $975 to 1,000 plus tax. The parts are $750. The shoes(lever assembly?), the retaining springs, the disk rotor(not like the regular brake rotor) which is hollow in the middle?.

Very expensive! I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Call Joe and his crew.

Seems like you need new rotors as the emergency or parking brake drum is incorporated therein. They might also be sayin you need a complete rebuild of the shoes and cables? Tough to tell from your description.

Stock is fine. But I prefer the Brembo OEM replacements. One problem is they are not plated so they corrode. My personal preference is for the Stillen drilled and plated Brembo rotors which Joe occasionally has on special. Ask him.

OEM pads, and I would purchase a shim kit to have on hand if you need it.

The rear brakes are a combination rotor/drum design - so you're replacing the rear rotor assembley either way. The e-brake shoes and parts are very rare failure items - I can't say that I have ever heard of it... so I'm not sure what's wrong back there.

If you could find someone willing to work with used parts in terms of the e-brake parts, I would feel comfortable going that route.... then install new rotors.

Good luck!

Yeah, but I would still get new shoes for the parking brake drums also.

New pads always with new rotors. Be sure to bed them correctly.

According to the service rep it's NOT the regular rotors which are a solid disk and have the two pads that squeeze them together. These E-Brake rotors are circular as well but hollow with a shoe in the middle that spreads apart and touches the inside of the rotor wheel.

The rotor and drum assembly are one and the same... it's one piece of metal.

I am with Heath, things sound a little fishy. Internal parking brake mechanism should not fail. Never heard of it, but I guess with corrosion it could happen. Cables, sure.

The way things are right now, it'll have to be done and I will ask to see the parts they replaced and I will keep them. I'll take a few pics and show everyone here what they actually did.

Their bid is way too high, even for SC in my opinion.

D- i have some oem rear rotors that were replaced by po at last brake change. they have never been turned (i replaced solid rear rotors with jpy32 upgrade).they are yours for the asking.

does your parking brake work?one quick way you could check the drum /shoes is to see if the grinding exacerbates when you depress (slightly) the p-brake while rolling.

i'm more inclined to guess wheel bearing--but that's only a guess over the inet.

They are saying that my regular rotors are fine. The Emergency brake assembly seems to be the issue.

They've kept the car since Thursday. They did not have the parts in stock and will do the work as soon as they get them.

Jay, do you think I should pull out of there and see if there is a less expensive alternative?

Easy to try what 3Q Jay suggested. push the park brake in a little and see if the problem changes. Also it's really easy to check it out. Pull the rear wheels, pull two bolts out of the caliper moving it out of the way, pull the rotor off and look at it. It's not that complicated.

Here's a pic of my rear hub/shock. You can just see the e-brake pads in the corner of the photo. The rotor just slides over those pads. Maybe there is just some crud in there and they just need to be cleaned...

I know exactly what you mean by that landing aircraft sound. I get the same on deceleration when approaching a stop light from a moderate speed. I get it only on the gold Q, which I've driven only 2k miles in the last year. She does not move much, so I'm also thinking it's from the e-brake sticking.

Dude, get your car OUTTA there!!! The E brake is just little mechanism, theres nothing to break, just the shoes replaced if that even needs it. I would try lubricating and adjusting, it'd be worth the $100 at a NON INFINITI dealer to look at it!

Do you use your E brake much? It may just be stuck or something, id want to take the rotors off and see whats actually going on.

Ive got a spare rear subframe.
