I absolutely must get this problem fixed, im having to bum rides to class, but my 92 s13 is essentially always in drive, no matter what set the gear selector to, neutral, park reverse, etc. in park it will jump forward about an inch before the transmission locks into park, and it also wont rev past 2k-ish rpm (give or take 100 rpm) does ANYONE have ANY ideas? please, ive tried everything i can think of, even dropped the valve body and inspected everything. is this an electronic or mechanical problem? i have very very limited knowledge of the inner workings of the AT.

basically, what tells the transmission to actually shift from say park to drive or reverse etc?

Not to let you down, but honestly AT's are hard and really expensive to fix, so if its the actual transmission you would prob be better off doing a 5 speed conversion or buying a refurbished transmission.

Check your shifter linkage.

As for not being able to rev past 2,000 rpm, the MAF or it's harness connector may have a problem.

what are the chances that the car would be completely fine and then all of a sudden the transmission dies and the MAF at the same time. Also today, i tried to run the self diagnosis on the transmission, and got nothing the O/D off light didn't come on at all, and the kickdown, inhibitor, and tps all check out, is it possible my TCU died?

-Edit- Also the shifter linkage all looks fine, doesnt look like it came loose or anything like that, and the inhibitor switch is in fact operating correctly (ie: i get 12 volts on the right wires in the right gears.

ok, after seeing some pictures of a proper transmission, i see that the problem is that the manual piston has come off of the manual plate, and must have gone back into the valve body. so my question now is just this, how does it secure to it? someone pried the shaft that holds the manual plate in place out, so im wondering what is broken, if anything, and if nothing, how to reattach it.

The manual plate is secured inside by two lock nuts. It's possible the lock nuts were never secured, so they may have come off.
