Hi everyone, new to the forum and was having trouble figuring out a solution to a problem I'm having.

The emblems on the grille/trunk/wheels are all gold colored, but the gold is wearing off so it looks terrible. The car is under warranty, but when I spoke to the nearest dealer (~6 hours away and not the one where the car was bought) they said the gold must have been added by the dealer and therefore not covered by the warranty. He also mentioned that there isn't a part number for gold emblems so he has no way of getting them.

I guess my question is whether there is a way to get new gold ones. I wouldn't mind the silver, but there is also a gold stripe down the side that doesn't as good unless it has the gold emblems with it.

Finally, if there isn't a way to keep the gold could I just polish it down to the chrome with a Dremel or something?

Sorry about the long post, thanks in advance if anyone can help.

First off I would like to welcome you to the M forum.

Sorry to hear your nearest dealer is such a significant distance away. This forum has plenty of information that will help you keep your car in the best shape.

The gold trim is not a dealer option and you may want to do some research on this. I would suggest calling the nearest dealer and ask them to look up the selling dealer. If you call the selling dealer and see if they can tell you who did the work. Not that it is going to be warrantied by either the place who did it or the dealer who sold the car.

The silver emblems for the trunk and grille can be replaced fairly inexpensively. The wheel covers may be a little more difficult and if I were in your shoes I would stare down a can of Krylon and weigh the options.

Good Day, and welcome!

I had the same issue with a previous Lexus that I owned with gold emblems on the hood, trunk, wheels, etc. I found the best thing that worked for me was to use one of those polishing cloths from a jewelry store, and just rub the heck out of it, and it becomes so bright and reflective, that the "silver" that is showing through is hardly noticeable because it is so reflective. Anyway, good luck, and don't get too stressed out about it, after all, it's only emblems on a car.

I'm not endorsing this dealer in any way. I have ordered parts through them before and everything was good but they are on the expensive side. $200 for the emblems in gold. I'd call to make sure they are for the first gen Ms.
