hey i just hooked up my emanage to my 97 240sx and i know the emanage is turning on b/c the light on it turns on with the car. the problem is the support tool wont go online. i have tried using all 3 com ports that are available from the com port listing. everytime i exit the program and start it up again. i am using a sony vaio laptop with the serial port. do i need to do something to the comp so it knows that the cable is connected and trying to read?

Did you set your com port to the right baud rate and settings?

Also, the interaction light will come on even if there's no connection to the laptop. When your engine is on, it will blink repeatedly, regardless of whether there is a connecction.

I had that problem a couple of times and what I did was turn off the car, remove key, close the program and wait a few seconds. Turn car back on and start engine, and finally start the software. The unit should communicate at this point.

If you can try another serial device like a mouse and see if that works, if not, then you may need to install the com port, It might even be disabled in the systm bios.

man this is kinda over my head... im using my sis's old laptop and the mouse has some problems. if i hookup the mouse before i start the comp it goes CRAZY and i have to turn it off and back on. if i hookup the mouse after the comp is loaded it works fine. dont know if that has anything to do with it?

by the way how do i enable the serial port in the system bio... (incase that is the problem)

Thats probably some kind of configuration problem, Go to your control panel>> system>> device manager and look for any yellow exclamation marks under the com/ports section. But since you got the mouse to work by plugging in after its loaded, try to do the same thing with the support tool. To enter your system settings you have to find out which key to press during startup, Usually you just tap the "del" key when you trun on the computer first, before you hear the beep.

If you have aim, msg me Rush0101 maybe I can help.

You might try asking in the E-Manage yahoogroup. I do remember seeing someone post once about issues with Windows XP. Windows 2000 seems to run great. There is a fix, but when I originally set mine up, I had Win2K on the laptop and so it worked fine. I tried accessing it with XP and it had issues. I know it can work, but there are some settings you mahy need to change. Someone on the yahoogroup will probably have the answer to this.
