My son is doing research for a school project. So, how many emails do you have in your personal account (In/Out/Draft all inclusive)? Elaborate on what email service you use and why (ie: preferences), when you established your account, and details about your reasons behind the quantity of what you maintain.

I used to be a Bellsouth customer for home phone and internet service. When they became part of AT&T, it was too confusing and they screwed up my email accounts in the conversion, so I ditched them. I got a Gmail account in February 2008 because my son had one and wanted to utilize some of their communication features such as chat and vid - at that time he was still living with his mom. As of this post, I have 801 emails. I usually save anything having to do with online bill payments, automotive research, online purchase receipts ... and yes, of course the inevitible proof of something I want to throw back in somebody's face if need be. :chuckle:

I am organized, however, I do have 6 different e-mail accounts. Those are for mostly spam, games, crap to sign-up for like ringtones and such, and misc. stuff like facebook.

But I have 1 good e-mail for my games, and friends, and 1 for my business. Others are spam e-mails, LOL!

ALSO I LOVE SCOTTY-2-FORTY AND THATS WHY I AM IN HERE

My main personal email:
Gmail. Loads of space. Tons of features. Highly customizable interface. Android phone.
Inbox - just over 2500
Sent - just over 600
Account since sometime early in 2005?

I don't tend to delete anything except complete garbage that will never be useful (IE facebook notifications or deal-of-the-day type emails). You never know when you might need to go back through that stuff.

3889.

Why? I have Gmail and don't ever delete anything, just archive. I've had Gmail since 2004.

Gmail: 6,700 message in the inbox, sent 1,008. Been using it since '04 or '05 I think, all of my work e-mail forwards there too so that pads it some.

There is no telling how many messages I have, so I chose packrat status. I use G-mail and Yahoo. The G-mail is for personal and business type use while the yahoo remains for anything that requires my e-mail like buying stuff, signing up for sites, e.t.c. I have two accounts because it just makes things easier. It also helps keep stuff separate. I delete junk mail and leave everything important. Its nice to have in case you ever need to reference back to something. Why you may ask? Why not is what I say. The storage is there and if I never need anything from way back, its just a quick search away!

I've had yahoo since 2004 and gmail since 2008. G-mails features are far superior to any other account i've ever had. It also runs super smooth.

I have Gmail, so it archives by thread and not by individual message, and I have 7736 threads last count in my inbox alone. Figure each thread has an average of 5 messages, and that puts my total emails at over 38,000.

I don't delete anything because the more email I get, the more space Google gives me (and since I frequently have to remember what I said to someone a year or so ago, I prefer to have it there so it's searchable). If you delete your email, their ad-targeting algorythm doesn't work and they don't make as much money. See how that works? :)

Exactly. "Organized" means you organize all your messages, which means NOT deleting them. I have hundreds of messages divided away into various folders on my primary Gmail account, and have thousands from the old @incessantdoom.com account I used before consolidating to a single gmail account for Android purposes.

As far as my actual inbox, gmail sorts itself, so I have a handful at any given time that get through my filters.

I have probably 7 different email accounts. I'm an engineer, so I get more email in a week than most get in a lifetime.

In Apple Mail I currently have 54,000 messages going back to 2007.

On DVDs I have Outlook PST files dating back to 2002.

On the other hand, I'm eager to throw paper mail in the trash. I used to do tech support for Microsoft's email programs like Entourage and OE and complained about users who archived their stuff and wept when all was lost. Now I'm one of them.

Gmail
NICO account:
54 inbox
670 sent
67 spam
565 trash
*Messages I have archived in specific folders - well into the thousands*

Yahoo account:
246 inbox
214 sent
141 spam
1 trash

I delete Facebook Notifications, special offers from various coupon / discount sites. Gmail does a great job of filtering out the spam, I just have to remember to go in and delete it. :) I don't delete NICO stuff. It's all archived. Member about a year.

Yahoo - member since 2003. Mostly friends back in TN use this one. This is my account for all the forwards, picture messages, surveys, stuff like that

**Edit - I just went in and cleaned out my Trash and Spam folders. Thanks for the reminder!**

My spam folder hit 22,500 today. Not sure when the 30-day purge happens, but I'm sure a lot of banned pinheads add me to spam lists. Gmail pwns their punkasses.

I have Gmail. I have about 35 filters, 12 different labels, and around 5k in my actual account. I save everything and archive it.

That being said, I have 3 accounts, and only one is active. One is my old account from college (all mail forwarded to the second one), one is firstname.maidenname, and the third is the firstname.marriedname (that I was told to reserve now in case I can't get it later), but unused as I am not married yet.
