ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 Adapter not working with 2002 altima

any ideas why it won't connect or does anyone have any tips on how to get it to connect with the torque app
i connect the adapter into my friend's 2008 nissan altima and connect like a charm but on my 2002 nissan altima 2.5s the adapter just won't read the obd system but it's already paired with my phone through bluetooth. anyone can help me?
i also have the service engine light on right now i need to clear that asap.
