I think so. You can tap and put a bolt into the hole. But why? Its a tiny turbo, I don't see any advantage in going to an external wastegate.

anyways, just checking if it was possible to just block off the IWG and use a EWG.

but if i could find a t3 buttom mount manifold then i wouldnt use an external wastegate...i thought of reclocking it but that internal WG is in the way.

but if anyone that can help me find a way to reclock it please help.

thanks for your help! im just new to this ka24de-t thing...no one actually did a ka-t back here...most of them went sr20det instead.

Just weld the flapper closed and remove the actuator...done.

Tell me a little more about your planned setup. I also have a Z32 TT turbo I'm thinking about using. I've run into a bunch of issues with it so far and I'm wondering how you solved them.

Oh, I was thinking you meant a Z31 turbo. The Z32 is FAR to small to use. Not even worth the trouble.

im not sure what plan im going with....but im gonna run a top mount turbo manifold from ebay, 32" intercooler unknown brand, and a stock z32....gonna try and weld the flap so i can reclock it and use an external wastegate....still gathering all the parts for this.

In the past couple days I've been doing more research and I finally managed to find a Z32 T22 compressor map. Everyone is pretty much right, the turbo is way too small. Using it on a KA24DE will result in shortened turbo life, terrible low end drivability, less then ideal power output and a lower detonation threshold.

I have tried to think of ways to make it workable, but the solutions are probably not worth the effort or too difficult for first timers.

If a larger external wastegate were installed or if the internal wastegate could be made to flow enough, an electronic boost controller could be used to open the wastegate at low boost to even out power production and to reduce boost pressure as RPMs rises so airflow requirements don't climb out of control. The problem of course is that it is inefficient and defeats the purpose of installing the turbo in the first place. If the turbo were being installed on a torqueless high-revving engine tuned for top end, this might be worth trying, but the KA24DE was designed for low end torque. If anything, an oversized turbo should be used to let the KA24DE deliver low end power and have the turbo produce all the top end power.

Another idea would be to purchase a T25 in need of a rebuild and replacing the center section with the one from the T22. In my case, the T22 was from a low mileage Z and has no shaftplay. I paid $103 shipped for it, so it is around the same price as a rebuild kit shipped. Furthermore I would be left with the compressor and turbine housings, the compressor and turbine wheels, and a 9.6 psi wastegate actuator. Someone looking to do a rebuild on another 300ZX T22 with damaged wheels/shaft or a cracked turbine housing might be interested or someone looking to do a similar upgrade on a T20 turbo. Someone looking to replace a worn out actuator or to replace the 7psi actuator on a T25 might be interested in it.

Someone with access to a machine shop might be able to enlarge the inlet and exducor holes on the housings and install larger wheels in the turbo. The housings could also be enlarged by doing extrude honing on it. On the other hand, the money for all this work would probably pay for a turbo at retail price.

Eh, let me know how things are working out for you. I'm still looking at ways to turn a bad buy into a not-so bad situation.

ok i think my turbo is from a z31.....my friend told me it was from a z32 so yeah....sorry about the confusion.....anyways about my set up....im not to sure what im going to do.....so ill just try and research more and see whats a good beginner set up.....now my question is since i have a z31 turbo will i be able to use an external wastegate and just use a boost control to balance things out? like what you said.....
