Lately, my 2000 Altima has been displaying a tendency to hold RPMS high (around 2000) when I'm just about at a dead stop. Usually happens when travelling at slower speeds, brake is applied at medium to high force (i.e. quick stop from low speed), and it doesn't matter if the car's in gear with the clutch released, or if the clutch is engaged with the transmission in neutral. It'll hold for around 3-4 seconds, whereas it never displayed this tendency before. No recent changes to anything, and no codes being thrown.
I've noticed that the eninge will hold RPM when changing gears, like, lifting right off the throttle doesn't cause the engine speed to plummet. It's always done that, so I assume it's normal. What tells the computer to keep the engine speed up in a situation like this?
