I've got a rockford sub in a q-logic box with a rockford amp and capacitor.

When I connect the wires from the amp to the terminals on the sub box it won't play, but when I just hold them lightly to the *outside* of the terminals it plays great. There's also a little sparking when I connect them.

It's the type of terminals that clamp down on the wires- cylinders that you put the wires through and are pushed up with a spring.

Any ideas?

Well first of all those terminals are gay as shat and i hate them very much. Secondly, why is it sparking?? Are you connecting the subs with the amp on or is it just sparking all the time for some crazy miswired reason?

A couple speaker guys who couldn't understand why it wouldn't work were connecting them when the amp was on and it was sparking. they flipped out and said that shouldn't happen and that it was a problem with the amp.

I don't think the terminals are shorted together, how could that happen?

I've had similar problems...here's my two cents. Sometimes when using those stupid terminals on the sub box, it's easy to push the wire in too far or not far enough. That's probably why it works when you touch it to the terminal, where you can see the metal part no doubt. I think the RCA outputs on your amp are fine. Just yank out those stupid terminals and connect the wires to the speakers directly. If this works, then you know for sure it's the terminal connections. You can already see that's most likely the problem. If you are set on getting terminals, order some from ebay that are heavy duty. I personally advise against terminals, they are the weakest link in your stereo connection and should be eliminated. Let me know if that helps dude!
