What is that whole assembly behind the speakers in the door panel that is housed in that yellowish plastic. Been using the search button, but coming up dry. It's a S13

I'm installing speakers right now and I'm wondering the same thing. Do I remove all this junk or what? Are they factory amps?

I have the active speaker system.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, I'm testing wires now to see if I can just take all this s*** out.

Yes, it's the amplifier for the speaker in your active system. You won't need it if you're installing an aftermarket amp to power aftermarket speakers.

yeah, I just put new speakers in and toby's adapters to I think either a 6" or 6.5" speaker.Much better then the stock size speaker, more selection too.

Run your own wire to the new headunit, its easier.

Only the active speaker systems had them. Otherwise, you just had speakers with no electronics in the door.

I just finished gutting the amplifier from the drivers side door speaker, the speaker sounded the same with and without the amplifier... I just re-used the existing factory speaker wire, no way I'm running new wire, eff that, sounds like a lot of work for no reason.

I'm working on the passenger side now, going to leave the amp hooked up on this one and see if I can tell the difference.
