Electronic Trip Odometer Left Half is Dim

My 1994 Q45 has an orange elecrtonic 2 line trip odometer which also is the annunciator for various problems. In the past month the left side has gone dim so that it very hard to read, the right side is the same normal brightness.

I would like to fix this but I am no mechanic. I can follow directions well though.

Do you have any ideas on what is involved. By the way the interior light dimmer has no effect on this display as far as I can tell.

There are two small bulbs that light that up. The instrument cluster has to come out to fix it. Usually the contacts just need to be shined up for the bulbs to work again, but most guys replace them to avoid having to ever get in there again. It's a fairly challenging job.

Hint that I tried for the first time yesterday... the bezel around the instrument cluster is much easier to remove if you remove the cover below the steering column and then remove the two large bolts that hold the steering column up. The wheel will drop a couple of inches and allow you to get the trim off w/o damaging it or the struggling with it. Thanks to whoever posted this a few weeks ago!!
