BTM is widely known for controlling timing other than that other methods include changing the base timing which will give you horrible driveability or get a tuned ECU

he said, yes thats one way to do it. other ways are to either retard the base timing at the distributor which retards not only during boost, when you need it, but all the time. this makes the motor run like **** out of boost. the other option is a tuned ecu like enthalpy or jwt which you don't have money for.

the car doesnt run that bad with a couple degrees less base timing. it may be noticable but not much

the greddy emanage is also a good option for up to about 400rwhp

I'm running 15BTDC (stock is 20BTDC) and my car runs just fine. Of course it would be better to have a base timing of 20BTDC and retard on boost, but hey... it's not that bad.

I'm either going to fork out for a BTM or an emanage and ditch the SAFC

I dont think i want to get a reprogrammed ecu, b/c then you couldnt change it in the future unless you send it in again. I dont think it would be worth the money. I guess ill get a BTM and save up for a Stand alone like AEM.

I will recommed using both SAFC and BTM with a tuned ECUThe tuned ECU will give you a basic setup to workthe SAFC will fine tune the fuel while the BTM will adjust timing. Now the BTM will retard timming and the ECU will retard timming too so be very conservative during adjusting.

there is no need to retard timing on top of retarded timing. if anything you may want to advance timing depending on the maps
