I have a 94 Q45, with an electronic OEM rearview mirror that adjusts between “auto” and “daylight”. The swivel mechanism that holds the mirror steady while allowing for adjustments (NOT the bracket that holds the mirror assembly to the roof) won’t hold the mirror steady when its hot outside and the car experiences any type of vibration (e.g., driving). How can I fix this? I have tried opening the mirror bracket assembly, but I can’t get the assembly separated. Any tech's or anybody got experience in this? The SM has nothing on it, and I have SEARCHED this Infiniti board but come up empty.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hmmm, Could be 1 of 2 things I've experianced on my low tech mirror.

1) Some mirrors (I don't have a 94 to check) have a rubber-like vibration isolator which fits between the top of the mirror mount and the windsheild. Keeps the mirror from vibrating while the car does.

2) the internal mount of the mirror may simply be worn out and require either tightening or replacement. My 90's mirror had a similar "loose" feel right before the day/night level broke off. My only solution was to replace the mirror. Given that your's is electronic, I'd pop off the rear assembly and try to firm it up before replacing.

I vaguely remember someone mentioning that there's a way to tighten it, but it's been a long time ago - probably before we moved the board. Maybe it was GregAtlanta? In any case, someone should be along shortly with an answer.

On my 96q,there is a rubber plug on the backside of the mirror, look from outside the car through the windsheild,it is color matched to the mirror color,so it is not plainly visible unless you look for it! remove plug with a small knive or screwdriver, and tighten the screw now visible! I did this 2 summers ago,and have not had to touch since! always seems to start in the hot summer time!Very easy fix!

QShip96, you da man!!!!!!!!!! Worked just like you said it would. I did however, encounter 2 problems -

1. THere mirror vibrations on moderate to rough roads, - will tighten it more help??

2. I accidentially knocked that color-coordinated rubber stopper inside the hole - opps!!

Thanks,

Stephen

Also, don't forget the damper between the mirror and the windshield. Removing it is a good test of wheel balance for us with fewer seat nerve endings than Dennis.

That damn thing...

Know how many times I've knocked it loose cleaning the inside of my windshield? And of course, the Q is the LAST car you want to drop something in... Once it goes under the seats, fugeddaboudit!

Thanks guys. Hey AZ Hitman - does Fred have a lastname or an email address?? If it doesn't work out, I will call Joe T or look in my local salvage yards.

I don't think mine comes with a damper; I'm just going to try tightening it some more.

What does "auto" do? Dammend if I know, I but I have it set on auto.

Thanks,

Stephen

"Auto" is auto dimming at night from glare of following headlights, like guys in their Civics with misaligned HID conversions.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t
