Those of you with electronic boost controller, especially the greddy profec b:

I dont' have any boost spike or creep problem with my currect ball-valve type from Hallman. My main interest is to increase spool up. Theoretically, they increase spoolup, but the question is:

How much better spool up is it with EBC, and is it worth the price?

Manual BCs are just bleeder valves of various quality. I've used one for years on several different turbo cars. However, they still allow the wastegate to recieve soem vacuum signal that will cause the wastegate to open a tad early. The way the electronic versions work is simple. Thye use some type of pressure switch to control a solenoid valve that won't send any signal to the wastegate until the preset boost level is reached.

I was actually going to build a DIY version for a heck of alot cheaper then the current ones available. Basically you just need a Hobbs switch which is $30 at most and a solenoid valve which is $50. Then the various fittings and vacuum tubing to connect them all.

That's a great idea for the DIY version. But how do you make sure the hobbs switch and solenoid can react quick enough to maintain stable enough pressure as it flips back and forth to regulate the pressure?

Let me know how it goes. I might try one too.

Just have to use a solenoid that snaps open. It only takes a small amount of vacuum to open the WG though. Once the valve opens it usually stays open until you let off the throttle to close the wastegate. I'll let you how i comes out if I build one. I'll actually probably use a two stg.

My Hallman works quite well. I hit 22 psi by 3200. Of course, this is on a twin scroll.

agreed, hallman is what i'm running and it's been great. the EBC is for those with the money IMO. get it if you feel it will help but if it only decreases spool time by 300 rpms, not sure if it's worth the money.
