Ok well I'm now on the market for an EBC and have narrowed it down to the Apexi AVC-R, HKS EVC V, or the Greddy Profec B II. Having seen a comparison of the AVC-R and the first Profec B, I know they're very solid performers without too much boost spike if any at all. The HKS though had alot of spike, just that it was for the EVC II, not the 5th generation that I'm currently looking at. If anyone's got any first hand accounts/recommendations (with reasons why aside from "that's the one I have") your input on this pretty expensive part would be greatly welcomed.

I have sbc-id and seems to be pretty good

one good thing I like is the small size, easy to look at/config interface...

I dont really know when you mean by boost spike. I am using my sbc-id as my boost gauge and according to it, I don't ever go past 10psi, which is what I configured it to be.

Oh yeah the SBC-ID. By spike, I'm referring to just before the boost level settles at what you've got it set to, there's a spike beyond what you want the boost to be set at.

Example, the HKS EVC EZ's chart I'm looking at right now, at 4500rpm at a 17psi setting, begins to climb from t=0, at t=1 it's at about 18psi, at t=1.5 it's at 23psi before beginning to level down after 3 seconds, it's at 17psi.

The only thing I can see about the SBC-ID though is that at the targeted 12psi, although not showing spike, does not hold 12psi, it's showing about 13-14psi. At 17psi it begins to show a bit of a spike, but holds 17psi consistantly after reaching 18psi shortly after 1 second (again at 4500 rpm).

The Apexi I wanted to have a look at as it seems to ramp up the boost very well and holds pretty well even at some of the lower boost levels. The Profec B, I wanted to have another look at because of the way it ramps up the boost and holds the boost even more consistantly than the AVC-R.

My thoughts are towards well, what significant changes have HKS, Greddy, Blitz (aren't they releasing a new SBC soon?) and Apexi done to improve the stability of the boost levels, reduce the boost spike, etc.

I was experiencing boost spike when I installed it initially
Nismo_Freak wrote:Move the gain up as high as you can before it starts to spike. From there you can reduce the duty and see if you can give it more gain. The benefit will be better boost response.

The trick is to get the gain / duty to a certain ratio so that it hits and stays on your target boost pressure, but you have enough gain to quantify a better response.
the above comment resolved my problem. I am no longer expercing boost spike according to the graph display (teh 0wnz!) and confirmed by a boot gauge.

i don't get how to use the hks evc 5. it's kind of un-user-friendly, if that's a big thing for you.
