Just bought a Nissan 1988 Z300ZX 5 speed GS. My friend said I shouldn't of bought it because they all have Electronic problems( The 80's cars) and can't get parts. The only problem is a AC blows warm air. It is a original 73K car from California. No rust looks brand new. Always wanted one since the 80's. It this true with these cars. I never heard of a bad Datsun/Nissan. Had a 240Z ran great just had rust.

They're not terribly complicated, but we're talking about a car that's nearly 30 years old now, so yes, it's possible it could have issues. Fortunately, they popular cars, so servicing they isn't too bad. As far as the AC goes, it's likely that it's just low on refrigerant, but since it's an R12 car, getting it recharged will be either expensive, or impossible. You can have it retrofitted for R134, but from what I've heard, it doesn't cool as well.

Welcome to NICO!

Overall it seems like the electronics (which are dinosaurs compared to today) seem to hold up pretty well on these older nissans. Nothing is terribly complicated on them, and used parts are generally a good bet.

With the AC, hard to say without knowing a little more information. Does the compressor come on? As stated, probably the first place to start is to vac/charge the car with refrigerant so you know it's charged properly. If it still has R12 in it, you could try getting a product called "freeze 12" which is compatible with R12. I used it in an old BMW I had, and it at least got the car cool again. It doesn't cool as well, but it's better than no AC. The problem with converting to R134a is you have to change the oil in the compressor and thoroughly flush the system so that's a big pain.. I'd try the Freeze 12 before opening the system, you can get kits on amazon or ebay pretty cheap.

The only problems I keep having is that when I actually find the electron, the speedo doesn't work anymore. Ha! :P
