My map lights, door lights don't work..no power to any of them.So here's my plan...CAN I DO THIS (without further damage)

Add (momentary) switches at both doors and an on/off switch near lights.run all 3 switches to a relay and the relay to bulbs

will it work?is it safe?

thanks

Uh oh... sounds like you have an internal short in your car's BCM!!! not good... Its like $400 for a new one... A few early model G coupes suffered from a slight flunkup in the BCM.

thats what i also think. Rather than replace bcm, plan to install new lights with some added interior bulbs while i am at it...but since i am electrically challenged, wanted to know if i can run mult. switches to one relay to control lights

The first thing to do is reset the BCM. Unhook the battery for a few minutes then put the battery cable back on the terminal. This resets the the BCM and your lights and such should come back to normal. You will lose your radio presets and maybe a few other memory things. I did this for my 03 coupe and it lasted until I traded it. If it happens again then your BCM needs replaced.

The work that would be required to run all that wiring would not make that this an efficient repair for this incident.

Bypassing the BCM would be easier and require no adding of switches. Although you would need to study the wiring diagram for the circuit and do some rewiring, it would really be easier to save the money and buy the BCM. The module actually controls many of the body functions and when one goes the others tend to follow and once you start hacking into the factory harness it is very hard to go back.

Biting the bullet and replacing the BCM correctly will save many headaches in the long run. I would first diagnose the route cause of this issue to verify that there is no power on the signal wire out of the BCM before condemning it.

I did it, it worked. I am amazed at so simple a fix
