My 1994 Q45 has some minor electrical problems I would like to fix.

Problem 1:My dome light and both foot lights wont turn off. After I shut the door and lock the car they are supposed to fade out slowly after some short time delay. Instead they stay on. I can turn the dome light off by pushing it to the off position, but the foot lights stay on. The foot lights have killed my battery one night so I need to fix this. The only way I can turn the foot lights off is to take the bulb out.

I also notice the lights stay on while im driving. So driving around town the dome and foot lights will pop on and stay on and they will blink and flash if I use my left turn signal. The left turn signal must use the same ground or relay or switch as the dome/foot lights.

So where is this relay located?

Problem 2:The lock and unlock buttons on my fob work, but the trunk release doesnt. And I also noticed I can't make the horn beep along with the locking of the car.

Horn beeping was disabled sometime in 1994 (thank god, I hate Furds and Chebys honking at me in parking lots all the time!).

Check the interior light control switch on the dash.

There is also a relay in the trunk by the release under the back trim panel, but if the door switch works, that's not it. If the door switch does not work, check the cancel/enable switch in the glove box.

So I must ask the obvious. You wouldn't happen to have the interior light fader turned all the way to the left would you? Sorry to ask a dumb question, but we must start with basics.

No the light fader switch isnt turned all the way. When the turn the fader switch all the way to the right the door lights, dome light, and foot lights come on. turn the fader switch off the door lights go off, but foot lights and dome light stay on, sometimes they go off like they should, but then they pop back on.

Must be a bad relay, ground, or switch somewhere.

The door mounted trunk release switch works fine. The cancel button(in glove box) is set to allow for it work.

So they stopped horn beeping and one touch sunroof open in late 94. I want both but have a late 94 build I think. I really want the one touch sunroof.

No one touch on the G50, as far as I know, except for driver's window down.

Check all your door open switches.

My 02 F50 honks at me when it locks, I think I have the option to change to just lights though.

Yes. Check your owner's manual. It tells you how you can use the "Settings" menu to navigat to the setting for remote keyfob locking.

I absolutley HATE security systems that honk the horn to confirm setting. I'm not blind, and even in daylight I can see the amber marker lights flash when the alarm is set. The horn honk is not going to dissuade a potential thief from trying to steal or break into the car. If he's close enough to hear the horn, he's close enough to see the marker lights flash.

Honking the horn to confirm alarm set is for teenage girls who think it's "cool".

I think its the factory alarm system telling the interior lights to come on or somehow forgetting to tell them to turn off. The lights now stay on and when I hit the lock button they turn off.

Where is the alarm brain located on the G50?

Easiest temp fix to keep your battery from draining is to pull the room lamp fuse. It's under the hood in the fuse box near the battery.

To troubleshoot I would double check your dimmer switch, check each door pin switch to make sure each is working. Pull each one out and check the wire (green/yellow) behind it. Also make sure the shaft that sticks out isn't broken off. If it is then it won't be long enough to allow the door to push it in. The mechanical pin switches are the most likely cause.

Most likely not a "bad ground". The interior light system uses a switched ground. The + lead on each dome light is hot all the time and each door switch supplies a ground (green/yellow wire) to the circuit through the courtesy lamp relay which also switches a ground to the lamps. If you had a bad ground they wouldn't turn on at all.

Your courtesy lamp relay could be stuck. It's one of the blue relays in the driver kick panel area. If you pull the relay they should shut off. Also the BCM, Body Control Module has an output (also a green/yellow wire) to turn on the interior lights that could be stuck. This wire feeds the courtesy lamp control relay as well. If you pull the plug(s) on the BCM it should shut off if that's the problem. The BCM is under the drivers dash left of the brake pedal.

There are a couple of diodes in the circuit as well but they shouldn't have any effect on the lights staying on if they failed.

Any chance there is an aftermarket alarm in the car? Many of them also have circuits to turn on te interior lights for a time and that could be defective as well.

I think its the BCM or the relay. I tapped one of those relays with my screwdriver and now the lights are working correctly.

Bad thing is now my alternator is shot. Only putting out 17amps when it should be putting out 110.

Anybody have an alternator forsale?
