Ok, just got an 89 240 and got it running pretty good. been driving it for a couple of weeks and tried to fix the headlights that wouldn't go down. I replaced the arm on the steering column and that fixed the permanent up problem. At the same time, I installed altima elec fans and wired up a switch to run them with and have it on the panel with the rear wiper motor switch, in that area so to speak.

That's where my problem started. fans work, lights work, what doesn't work is the auto seatbelts will not retract. The wipers will not come on. And the instrument cluster gauges do not work. They seem to be stuck where they were when I cut the car off. The tach is at 0 always, speedo at 0 always, temp is barely above the bottom line. The lights on the cluster work fine, also the battery light on the panel is barely lighting up, just enough to notice it at night.

I have the switch from the fans running a positive wire from the battery to the fans, through firewall at the hood pop grommet, to the switch. It's grounded at one of the brake pedal bolts.

The car is a 89 fastback with kae motor, power windows, locks, rear wiper motor, 5 speed, analog cluster, also has an aftermarket radio.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Was mainly wondering if these systems have a common ground or relay. Checked all fuses and tried to make sense of the wiring diagrams available on other posts.

Wait a minute. Are you saying you have a hot wire going to the switch, and a ground coming off of it!?

The switch has to in-line with only one polarity, I learned that the hard way.. You may have shorted some stuff out, I don't know enough.

I nabbed some old Altima fans as well, but I'm using a relay as well as a switch. I did have it signaled to the fuel pump fuse, but I really don't need my fans on all the time so I put a switch in, more clutter

The wires from the hot side of the fan run directly to the battery with an inline fuse. the ground of the fans run to the switch and then I have the other end grounded to a bolt on the brake pedal, completing the circuit. Fans work fine, I was wrong about the wipers, they work. Anybody have any idea why my gauges and seatbelts don't work? My gas hand works. No speed, revs, or temp and my battery light is barely lit. neither one of my seatbelts work. PLLLLLEEEAAAASSSSSEEEEEE HELP ME!

grounds for that harness are. passenger side under the dash bolted to the dash support. Under driverside seat. right next to the driverside power seatbelt motor, under the drivers rear speaker on the front side of the strut tower, the bracket that holds the hatch latch, and by the passenger side power seatbelt motor, hope this helps. A lot of the grounds in that harness are connected and one be loose or disconnected will cause many problems

Changed your title because it sucked.

By reading your post my assumption is that you do hacky work, and you created your own problems. Take out all of the hacked up stuff you installed, check all fuses, fuse sockets, relays, and relay sockets, then report back.

whats wrong with running them through a switch. Thats how i got mine ran. One switch for low speed and one switch for high speed. Of course 30 amp fuse inline.

But i have been playing with electronics for years now. So i have a good understanding.
