Ok so the car (96 j30) wouldn't start this am. I suspect the battery is dead. I measure the voltage...and it's 12. Hmmm...there was some corrosion on the + terminal (lot of good that corrosion gel they sold me at the auto store did). So I figure that must be stopping it from getting a good enough connection. I clean that, put it back on. Still the same.

All I get is a bit of dim courtesy lights. NOTHING else. No security flash. When I turn the key...nothing.

I hooked up my battery charger to try to use the quick start feature. The charger says the battery is full. (that coincides with the voltmeter saying it's fine). With the charger running the dome lights are now bright and pulsing a bit. I try to start...and get lights on my cluster now...security etc...and it ALMOST wants to try to crank.

It's too dark to work on yet and I figured I'd post asap to hopefully get a response before I get home from work to work on it.

I have no clue what to check for. I didn't see any fuses blown under the hood and the fuse panel inside looked ok but I really couldn't see them all without taking some out. I didn't think it likely that a fuse would cause this.

All I can think to do now is to try to inspect my positive and negative cables going from the battery and trying to notice any issues with them. Other than that...I have no clue. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Nevermind. It was as a guy at work suggested. The battery, although showing full voltage has something wrong with it (dead cell(s)) or something.

I have no clue

Almost every large county/region in US has a votech school were automotive and general electronics are taught.

A very useful skill set when office work turns bad.Plumbing is good too, as with anything on Dirty Jobs.

Ya, Although it showed the proper voltage...under a load it wasn't doing it's job. Dead. Oh well. I will never complain about a dead battery as long as it has lasted as long as it has been guaranteed for. It's one of the cheaper things that is easy to replace and isn't designed to last forever.
