Electrical problem HELP 2005 2.5

I am trying to help a friend out, this is what he told me:
My brother-in-law's car. It's a 2.5L Altima. Problem just popped up about a week ago. Sometimes the car will have absolutely no electricals -- headlights, emergency lights, dome light, etc. Nothing. Opening/closing doors, trying to lock/unlock the doors will sometimes bring it back but when you try to start the car, all power goes away again. Try again 20 mins later and it starts just fine.

Battery is new and the terminals look fine. I'm thinking it may have to do with Nissan's NVIS system but I find it hard to believe it would cut out absolutely every bit of electronics.


Has anyone ever heard of this?

it could be a problem with the body control module and the power going to it, i would look/have looked at that first as the possible problem
