Last January after a 4 hour long rain my Versa developed a high pitched whine coming out of the drivers' side front door. It was whining away in the driveway with no one near the car and continued to whine all the way to the dealer the next day. The dealer determined there was a leak somewhere and replaced the beeper inside the door and some seals.

Less than a month later, the problem reoccurred during the next rainstorm. Dealer replaced the buzzer again as well as and more seals.

Well following our drought, we had another great rain yesterday. Walked out to get in the car and the whine was back. This time they're going to replace the weather seals around the drivers' side window glass because they can't figure out where the water is getting in.

Any ideas? The car is fine through car washes, downpours, etc. It only seems to be happening after the car is sitting in the driveway during a good 3 hours or longer of steady rain.

I'm guessing that since it doesn't happen during car washes and other situations where it gets water on it is because the leak must be fairly small.. since you are having rain storms for a couple hours long that seems to be the only thing that comes to my mind..

My guess would also be the window seals.. maybe there is just a little bit of rain getting in there and when a rainstorm comes it bundles up..

got a question. this is happening only when the car is parked in your driveway, is your driveway sloped? perhaps its at a certain angle that the water can eithera) get in thru the door or window sealsb) pool up inside the door without draining properly.

but as your dealer will be checking and changing seals, maybe just bring up this idea.

Thanks. The dealer and I have talked about it including angles it may be parked at. The biggest problem is that it doesn't rain much around here so the problem is only coming up once a year. It's not something they can replicate because the leak is too slow.

I have no idea how exposed things are inside the door panel but I think they're even toying with trying to surround some things with foam or something non-conductive so that such a slow leak would never get to anything that would short out.

At any rate, I have to give West Covina Nissan a big thumbs up. Their service dep't has been very good at trying to solve the problem and not charging for anything. At 30,000 miles and the desert heat this car has been through I know many car dealers that would be attempting to charge for worn rubber, seals, etc.
