All my car's electrical components are off, all lights door window, headlight etc... and the fuse link keep blewing they are so expensive 16each ,so I took my car to the mechanic and he said i had a short circuit inside the alternator. once home, I used the battery charger devices with alternator check capability and i read faulty,

SO i swapped the SR alternator with a new ALTERNATOR i had on my KA motor before, and it still reads faulty... WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG>??? hellp!!!!

check the heavy cable that goes to the batt. look for bad wire or connections. check that little brown plug that goes into the alternator and the wiring in that harness. might have to peel back tape and looming. goodluck.

I have similiar problems, none of the interior accessories come on, and the fuses blow almost the instant they are replaced. I'm waiting on a new wiring harness, then rewiring the whole thing because there are exposed wires in the fuse box (under the hood). I really hope this fixes the problem...and hope yours isn't as serious...

since the problem is occuring with both alternator's, doesn't sound like it is the alternator. It might be the alternator connector harness from the car. You could have a bad ground, possibly. Check for a wire that is connected from the harness to the chassis somewhere and make sure there are no break, burns, lose connections, etc. Good Luck!

are you sure the alternators are interchangable? Normally you cant just swap alts from car to car.. Im not sure if htey are the same from sr and ka....

yeah i am pretty sure that the ka alternator work fine on th sr except for the pully size.. and one of the bolt holes... once you fix those two things it will work fine. voltage and amp are the same..

I checked the ground it seems fine.. hm...

i used the alternator off of my 95 KA on my s13 SR when the alt went out. it works, you just have to swap pullies. use an impact gun to zip off the nut while holding the pulley with a rag. if you use a breaker bar, u have nothing to hold the pulley still unless u stick a screwdriver into the alt casing. this is a bad idea, i kinda bent the internal cooling fins, but luckily i could straighten them out. i noticed my SR alt had a 70amps sticker on it, and the KA alt was 90 amps. nothing wrong with a little more juice. works fine. the only things different were the bolt for the ground strap was in a different spot, as well as the hole for the brown plug that goes to the alt.

yeah.. i messed up the sr alternator trying to get the pulley out.. haha.. took it to a shop and the guy pulled it out with the impact wrench in no time.. .. anyway.. i went back home and installed my KA alternator with the new pulley, just fig out that the upper bolt hole was to big, made another ride to get the drill bit.. finally when i placed everything on and started the car.. i checked it again with the tester, and it read alternator faulty... i was like >!>>!>??!??!?, ****.. i messed up the SR alternator.. maybe is some cable.. but have no idea of what cable.. there is one harness from the alternator to the transmission and to the battery... should i pull the whole thing out to check?? gosh..

BTW anyone have any IDEA of how to check the amount of AMP passing thru the FUSABLE LINK??? i dont want to blow another fuse.. too expensive.. something i learned from teh mechanic was too use a thick wire and touch both ends to see how much electric spark passes thru.. hehe.... i did so, at lease it a bit better than before, but when i leave the the wire touching i here a lil weeeehh sound.... y???

I was having this same problem, it's a ground it sounds like, just check your alternator ground and the wiring on the harness. At first my ground was cut for some reason. Reconnected it (on the wrong spot), worked for a day then shorted again. Grounded it correctly and everything was fine.

another question.. is your car electric component supposed to turn on without the fusable link??????

all electric components are by default offf.. and then wehn i start it.. and rev the car.. everything goes on and work fine except for the turning signals... and the alternator is still not charging the battery...

doesnt sound like the alternator. sounds like u have a short in your wiring harness somewhere if all the fuses keep on blowing.
