I just bought a Black 1994 Q45 with 107k miles on it.

...So the buttons on the center console that control the windows didn't work, and I took the whole thing apart. I wanted to make sure that there's no fault in the wiring itself, so i desconnected the 2 connectors from the control panel and started shorting pairs of wires to see which circuit will roll the windows up and down. Everything went fine, and I was able to controll all the windows, but at some point when I was connecting the wires in the left (yellow) connector everything stopped working. By everything I mean buttons for power windows and power locks, at any location in the car. I checked all the fuses (engine compartment and under the dash) and links, and the all seem fine. As if this wasn't strange enough, I noticed that if I open the door locks and then close the manual lock on the drivers side, all doors lock automatically, as they normally should. Yet the buttons don't work.Any ideas? I ordered the subscription to the FSM, but haven't received it yet. I feel so helpless...

On a different note, how do you retrieve a screwdriver bit that has fallen into the center console?:)

Magnet on a flex stick for the bit. Check the relay behind the TCU at the driver's kick panel for the electrical problem.

Alright, the FSM clued me in. Seems that I activated the LAN Fail-Safe System, and that caused all of the above. Now the big question, how do I deactivate it?

Just wanted to follow up.So. After I took half of the interior apart trying to figure out what it was, I finally printed out a big chunk of the FSM and brought the car to my mechanic. You know what it was? A fuse! A fuse that I checked a thousand times... visually. The moral of the story: if a fuse looks OK, that doesn't mean it really is OK. Check it with a tester. My mechanic sure had a good laugh:)
