I have a 1995 240sx. Recently, the battery icon on my dashboard stays on and never goes away. My car wont start as well. Here is what I have done to address the issue and hopefully maybe some help:

change brand new battery. Didnt fix it.Change spark plugs. Still wont go.Changed distributor cap and rotor....still nothing...

Omfg, I have a whole week to work on this before school begins so I'd appreciate any input. HELP PLEASE PLEASE.

Check the alternator..

With the car running, disconnect the batt and see if the motor still runs... if not, its your alt

My problem is that the car wont start. So how can I get it running to see if its the alternator if it wont start? The car cranks, but just wont start.

The light stays on when the car is not running (your voltage is below 13-14 volts) this is normal.

The real problem is that the car will not start.

Did you have anything"fixed" lately? How long since it was running? Was it running OK then? Any more info you can give will help.

Ok I'll give the scenario.

About 2 weeks ago friday, the car was perfect. I drove him and left it there for a few hours before getting ready the work. Then the car rumbled like mad with the idle running into the low 600-400s. I tried gassing it, but instead it shut the car down with the engine rocking left and right but still in place like a psycho. I thought it was the aac so I went next to the thing near the oil filter and taped it with electrical tape. Now the car wont even start at all.I got tried to jumpstart the sucker, but made a mistake with the cable jumpers in wrong sections causing a big big spark. So now, I put a new battery and replaced the fuses. The fl30 and fl100 I believe. However, now my car will only crank, but wont go. The windows, power moonroof work fine, but the radio and stock alarm wont go on. The battery light icon in my dashboard is always on as well.......

I've checked for a timing chain issue, but thats not the problem I think.

The distributor cap, rotor, and spark plugs were changed.....

Thats all I know unless you wanna ask something else specific.

Electrical issues can be a pain to resolve. If you don't have one, get yourself a multi-meter. You will have to methodically test each of the components and wiring for the components that do not work. It sounds like you have several issues at this point. And it may not be all electrical either.

Hmm, ok. I was wondering, I've ordered a obd II reader already, would that be enough to tell me exactly where my problems are? I have the factory service book.

it can help, but only if the problem throws a code. It won't necessarily tell you the exact problem, but it gives you a good place to start.
