Hi there folks,
So my 1999 G20 has been acting up lately. It started one morning with what I thought was just corrosion on the battery terminals, my jump pack would start the car yet as soon as I removed the jumper cables the car would die. So I cleaned it up and jumped it and the car started back up.
Next I go to work, get out and have to drive home in the dark. Realizing both of my headlights are dead, I switch on high beams and they are fine. About halfway home (10 min drive) my lights flash very bright and blow out. I check the fuses and it's not that. Need new headlights.
I go to get the alternator tested the next day and I'm told I have a bad battery. Did not replace because I'm scared these power surges I'm getting will cause my new battery to wear out quickly.
A man helps me try to jump it later that day and my car has no electricity running through it at all. Again a corrosion on the battery issue, as the next day I'm able to get the car going after cleaning the battery terminals. I can clearly see corrosion on the ground cable as well.
Now I'm sitting here with the car running and I turn on the windshield wipers and they get another power surge and are going faster than full speed. When I accelerate my abs light comes on, when I'm driving my air bag light flashes, and my brake and battery light are staying on which I have been told is inductive of alternator failure. All these lights have come on in the last week, aside from the abs light.

My question is this. Will a new alternator and battery be enough to fix my car? Or is there wiring issues, or possible a fusible link blown? What should I attempt to replace first?

My question is

Update : replaced the battery and ground wire from the battery, and it started at least. Still getting a battery and brake light though.

To replace the alternator now or replace more wiring before I try it? And should I replace th e headlights or wait until Ive found the cause of them blowing?

I'm curious how this ended...

I know a faulty voltage regulator (inside the alternator) is typically how Nissan alternators eventually die. I've replace 3 of them in 2 different vehicles for the same reason. The worst part about a faulty voltage regulator is they work fine... sometimes-- usually when you test them. Next moment they are frying your circuits (blowing lights out) or starving the battery.
