electrical issue with the lights at night

haveing serious issue with the headlights on my 96 J30 the headlights will not turn on when the taillights are on and when i disconnect the taillight fuse only the high beam headlights work anyone had this issue before your help is greatly appreciated

Are your bulbs the correct wattage (55w)?

you need to check your headlight relay, it sounds like its dead, it can be bad and still turn on part of your headlights. I had the same problem you have. and it was the relay switch, i just called around to some junkyards and found one. only 2 dollars. i dont know what they cost new. I think improper wattage of bulb causes it to go bad.

they are the correct wattage and i think the relay was ready to go out when i got the car. does anybody know wher i can locate the headlight relay. also new problem occured when im at idle car is fine but when i start going my brake light, headlight, and battery light, lights up on the dash any ideas?

local infiniti dealer has them for about 28 bucks.

You can go to http://www.fuzzycats.com and look in the dyi section for the procedure.Very easy.

hey thanks for that yodawill2000 but do you have suggestions on the part when those lights come on when the car gets going? i think it might be my alternator because its throwing more power my windows shoot up fast everything works alot faster

Alternator or battery or both.

most likely its the alternator because the battery is an optima battery thats 1 month old even if that i mean i was worried that my dash looked like a damn christmas tree with all the lights coming on but.

If your changing out the alternator, get an OEM Nissan unit. They work best, aftermarket ones are known to be problematic on J's.

Did you buy OEM or did you buy aftermarket? How Much And where did you buy? I am in need of an alternator myself, trying to shop around.
