hi everyone, i have a 97 nissan 240sx. and i go through alternators every 2-3 months. basically i know when to change my oil because i have to change the alternator at the same time. the first time i had to change it the battery light and the brake light came on. After that i'd have to notice thigns like my dashboard lights dimming, or my car excessivly backfiring, or the sudden loss of power. i would have normally given up and taken it to the dealer, but they will have my car for too long, and i have no means for transportation to work i have searched but no one has a problem that is mine. some have some close, but none work for me. i get a bran d new alternatoer and it dies out. i have an optima battary for right now and its completely dead. any sugguestions on how to fix this problem???

did you try pulling codes? sounds like there's something else going on instead of just chewing through alternators. when you get the new alternator have the new one tested and the optima tested. Draining the optima isn't all that good for it either. I suspect you've another problem at the charging system though, probably the easiest bit is to check over the lower harness. Could be something as simple as a ground though. More details are needed. When you take the alternators back, do they test them and see that they've failed? If so, do they tell you where they failed?

i had this one checked at autozone. they said hte regulator was gone. But really when i asked him what was wrong he jsut said i need a new alternator. not like the commerical. i have changed the battery the last time with the alternator, as well as the ecu. only thing i could tell you is the car was auto orignally then changed over to 5 spd and its giving an issue.
