Electrical Gremlins

2002 Infiniti I35: frequently, though not every time - when I depress the brake pedal daylight driving, the dashboard light goes out. Back on it comes when the brake pedal is released. Check Engine light is ON, but has been on since last engine work over a month ago.

Possibly unrelated: on a trip last week a rough sound emitted from the right front of the car, sounded like the tire was running over one of those "wake-up" strips at the side of the road. (but it wasn't!). This happened several times, but not consistently.

Of course I know that I can look forward to frustration as I try to have the car duplicate these symptons at the service station. So I was hoping I might get a lead from the wisdom of the Forum.
