Would it be ok to run an electric fan off of the fuel pump relay?

no you will over load the relay. You are better off to make your own circuit with a blue nissan relay from a junkyard. here is a drawing to asist you in making the circuit.

using the above diagram, have the relay triggered by the fuel pump wire, but dont have the fan directly running from it.

so how should the wiring be at the fuel pump wire? should I tap the fuel pump wire and hook it up to 2?

the + source should be the fuel pump wire, so that will go to "1" and "2" will go to ground without a switch. For a temporary setup you can just take the wire and wedge it in with the fuel pump fuse. or you can actually find the wire and make a neat permanant setup.

Ah ok. Cut the fuel pump wire, hook the side from the battery to 1, the part of the line that runs to the pump to 2, from another 30A fuse run the wire to 3 and hook up the + side of the fan to 5. Is that right?
