The driver's side electric seat stopped moving forwards/backwards. Luckily it's stuck at the right position for my size. The motor works and actually one side of the seat tries to move. As far as a I can tell, underneath each side of the seat is cork-screw that goes into some type of gear box. Both screws move, but it only catches one of the gear boxes. Is it possible to purchase just one of these gearboxes (or whatever they are called)?

Thanks.

Pull the seat and look for coins in the track. They will be down by the seatbelt buckle.

If thats not it make sure the cable is still attached under the seat going the the other track. Somtimes they get knocked off.

I have the same problem in my '02. Mine was grinding for a couple days before it stopped, and it stopped while the seat was too far forward. We pulled the seats and checked the tracks - unfortunately they were clear. I called the dealer to check on the price of the motor, one tried to tell me $900 because the "whole thing" had to be replaced. A few more calls and I found out there is actually a TSB for this so there is a kit that they can sell just the motor from. I think I was quoted around $257 for that part. Luckily I was able to get the seat to move back to a comfortable position by banging on the motor with a rubber mallet. Hopefully yours is just a coin or dirty track.

look for members that are doing a cloth-leather swap. When I did mine, I removed the motor under the driver seat and sold it on ebay for 50 bucks.

If you unbolt the seat and turn it up on its side so you can work on it, you can see the motor drives the two worm gears thru two gear boxes. If you take the motor out (easier than it looks) and take the gearbox apart, you will see the nylon gear chewed up and teeth missing. As a temporary fix, leave the outside worm gear off and put it back together. It will work with one worm gear but not as good. You can take the work gear from the passenger side and that will help. The nylon gear looks like a 50 cent part but I can't find where to buy one. If anyone finds out please let me know at [email protected]

He is correct. There is a Nissan Technical Bulletin out for this very problem and any tech at your local Nissan dealer will be more than able to take care of that problem.

As for you hagoth, If I'm not mistaken, it's also a recall which means that Nissan pays for the parts and labor. I may be wrong but I would call and talk to another dealer and see what they say about your situation.

I'm gonna bump this because it's a problem on the car I'm getting. 01 I30 leather seat is stick all the way forward. I haven't took the seat out yet but can anyone link me to the TSB? Thanks
