I have a 1990 NA 300zx and noticed that my electric fan is always on; as soon as I turn the key the fan comes on...the relay is fine...what could be causing this?

Thanks

I hate to say I've actually never payed attention to when my fans come on in the Z,
but assuming this is not normal percautions then it's the power or on/off wire shorted somewhere.

Autozone has generic schematics for things like this, and you can use a multimeter to easy shoot the wire.

The wire should be easy to identy on the schematic, with a label such as on/off signal or power

If you can get the wire apart on either end, throw it on the triangle for continuity, and touch ground and the power wire it shouldn't make an audible noise.

(Usually people use OHMs when they shoot wires though)

Lucky. Mine never comes on, and the fan is good.

Stock radiator fans are belt driven, clutch controlled.

Are you talking about the fan in front of the A/C condenser? Could be a short, might be a problem with a connector or a switch in the AC system.

If the fan is aftermarket sitting between the radiator and the engine, just check the wiring - shouldn't be too hard to follow. If its the factory condenser one, check out the service manual and look at the wiring diagram for it.
