While I cannot see a good shot of the thermostat, I will have to assume it is like many aftermarket bolt-on electric fans. It is a bulb that you push through the radiator near the hot water inlet. Yes, it does indeed work very well, assuming the electronics part of the thermostat is well designed. Its just a knob you use to set the temp that triggers the fan to turn on. Simple and efficient. I have a Black Magic on an old carburated V8 and it works better at regulating the engine temp than the old clutch-fan did with a lot less noise. Plus I don't have to worry about having a cheap flex-fan coming apart at higher RPM's on me. Which has happened. Replacement radiators are expensive.
That being said, the pic of the one you are looking at looks less than stellar. The fan and blades itself is of the cheapest design you can find (just like those ***-tastic aluminum flex fans) and its efficiency at pulling air will suffer because of it. Second, the supporting frame/chassis looks flimsy and it looks like it is designed to clamp through the radiator instead of around or over the radiator. A major nono.Lastly, where the hell is the shroud? Without a shroud, all that fan is going to do is re-circulate the air in the engine bay since that is easier than pulling through the radiator.
You generally get what you pay for, and that fan is cheap (price and construction). These are only my experiences and opinions, not gospel.
