What size electric fan should I run (opinions) and what should I look for.. i.e. temp sensor... and any brands that anyone might recomend. I did find this and wondered everyones opionion>

http://www.performancecenter.c...=2.4l

Its 12inches and $74... maybe I'm making to much of a big deal about it, but I get a lil worried about overheating (damn KA) sometimes. Thanks.

I first bought some $80 aftermarket fans from a race shop but they didn't cut it, I went to the junkyard and bought a pair of electric fans from a DSM, any Eclipse/Laser/ ....trimmed the edges to fit the radiator, drilled holes and strapped with zip ties , moved that silver a/c canister a little forward, they keep the car 2 notches below normal temp.

I was thinking of going to the junk yard and pulling some but worried about fitment, quaility and any wiring issues. But, I also dont want to spend $70+ on something that isnt going to work either... so I'll take a trip to the junk and see what I can find. Thanks man.

another thing to take into consideration is direction of air flow, push or pull. I have no idea, but I thought it worth mentioning so that someone more knowledgable can comment.

I just installed a perma-cool brand fan I bought from Summit racing. it fits perfectly, came w/ all the hardware to attach it, AND flows 2,950 cfm ;-D I'm hella pleased w/ the results.

most aftermarket fans now are reversable. I would think it would be more beneficial to have the fan set up to pull though since it wouldnt impede the airflow as much. After the air is to the front of the radiator the fins will straighten it out as opposed to the air fighting to get around the fan then getting to the radiator. Just my thoughts though I have been known to be wrong before :-p

I have 2 12" supposedly high flow fans. But the car starts overheating a bit with long repeated abuse.

ive got a permacool 14in. its a freaking beast but sometimes the temp. needle starts to climb fast if ive been going on the highway for awhile and have to slow down considerably (like when i was coming down the interstate and had to slow to 10mph because of a wreck blocking 2 out of 4 lanes). i adjusted the temp it kicks on at and i think its resolved though.

love the fan to death, reccomend it highly. i think the problem has to do with my car sucking - i have fixed that, or will when i get those goddamn rod bolts.

It could also be the whole problem of no shroud. Im getting two high performance spal fans which will be replacing the perma cool.

DO not cheap out on fans. Make sure cfm ratings are published. Cheap fans are just that :D

Ensure that adequate ducting and a solid shroud are in place.

ditto.

part of the reason i went w/ my 14" perma cool was that it fits PERFECT inside the stock fan shroud. I just did a bit of trimming w/ my drimmel to make it easier to remove. :-D Also, if you're not running AC get that AC condensor out of the way!!

Alright so perma cool it is... I just have to go find my shroud and order the fan. Oh and my ac condensor is gone so no worries there, although I live in South Florida :( ... ah well I'll just get a dash fan:D.

pretty much any 14" fan will fit nicely inside the shroud :-D if you want to see pix before you go for the perma-cool let me know, I'd be happy to take pix of mine.

Hi, i'am new here and i would like to share a personal experience with you guys. i have a 1990 240sx SOHC and i live in Phoenix. AZ. my car runs hotter than normal in the summer because my a/c fan does not work. temp gauge is always over halfway to overheating with the a/c on. when it starts to overheat, i have to turn the a/c off and turn the heater on to cool the temp down. This Suck in AZ!! in the winter it was ok. so i decided to make more room under the hood by removing the stock fan, the shroud and the broken a/c fan and replace it with 3 12" electric fans i bought from ebay. i think it was around $40 a piece. 2 were rated at something like 1100 cfm and the other was around 600 cfm. the 2 x 1100 (2200)cfm i mounted as a puller and the other was a pusher in front of the condenser. i had the 2 pullers on a adjustable thermo relay to kick on at a certain temp and the pusher splice into the old a/c fan wire to kick on when the a/c is on. i started this project at the end of last summer. it works great for all of the end of that summer and through winter. but temp was running just a litte bit over halfway on the gauge and steady and wasn't rising. i assume everything was fine and dandy until that one faithful hot AZ day. it started again with rising temp and a/c off - heater on. Again This Suck Very Much!!! i went back to ebay looking for higher performance fans and ran across SPAL fans. these are not cheap fans. they had different kind of 12" fans - thins ones to thick ones. the one that interest me was the high performance puller 12". the design was thicker and have only 5 blades and was rated at 1620 cfm and at around $140 a piece. ouch!! i was very skeptical at first because why pay $100 for an extra 500 cfm. so i did a little research and found out that a lot of custom hot rods used SPAL fans to cool down their V-8's. so i took a chance and bought 2 of them. 1620 cfm x 2 = 3240 cfm. i figure what the hell if they can cool their V-8's i can cool my 4 banger too. another project - remove 3 ****ty fans and replace with 2 spal fans. this time i only use 2 fans as a puller no pusher. i wired the fans to my old thermo relay (supposed to support dual fans) and all i can say is WOW.. these 2 fans are really amazing. my temp gauge now is a little below halfway even with a/c on full blast and in the middle of rush hour traffic in Phoenix, AZ (110 degrees +) until the relay blew. my relay was rated to 30 amps- each fans it rated max 20 amps. (these babies suck some juice). like a dumbass, that's the part i did not read up on. so now while i'am waiting for the new dual fan relay (70 amps) to come in, i only have one fan hook up directly to the battery via plug and unplug under the hood just to get me to work and back. this also suck. But all i can say is WOW again with only one fan running the temp gauge is just a little over halfway and not rising even in traffic and a/c full blast. Now i know why these fans are expensive. it is worth every penny. If you have roughly $300 to spend on cooling fans for your 240sx, in my opinion, these fans are the way to go and you will not be disappointed. I hope my experience help out some of you living in hot climate like AZ.. i guess U Get What U Pay For.. Thank you

most of how hot your engine runs has to do w/ the thermostat also ;) If you're having overheating probs it can help to get a 160 degree thermostat. Good information about fans tho sonnys240 :)

Im moving to AZ in about a year so i might end up having to drop to a lower temp thermostat when i do my CA swap.

(my batteries died on my digital cam so i wontbe able to get pix until tomorrow, my setup looks identical to Goofy's except i have my shroud on.)

Thanks for the pic Goofy, and Sonny thanks for that info. I'll look into both fans and see which one I can afford and will best satisfy the need to keep temps down. I guess I really should have replaced the thermostat already...its in my room somewhere...

I believe the Altima fans are a fairly direct fit for an s13.

A shroud that covers the entire radiator will help a bunch. If the fan doesnt have one then how is it going to pull through the radiator when it can just pull the air the through the sides. Also has anybody tried ducting. So that air is "rammed" through the radiator.

Just throwing out ideas. I know that most factory fans have a shround to pulled air through.

I got one 12 inch perma cool fan from summit it took like 2 days to get here very pleased with there customer service as well, I think I should have gotten 2 though. I guess I'll see how it works out once that good'ol florida heat hits it.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that some of 95+ 240sx's came with a thicker radiator ( dual core??) is this true and would it be a direct swap into a 93 240? Thanks.
