i'm in the process of installing an electric fan...i have a question about the wiring..is the electric fan suppose to be on all the time????...is there a way to wire it so it comes on when the engine tempurature is up???the step-by step in stall on 240sx.org shows how to wire it to your fan relay in your fuse box but it looks like the fan stays on all the time....

thanks

you can get them with a thermostat(right word?...doens't sound right)....so they will turn on at a certain temperature-

Or you could wire it into the stock ac cooling fan harness. It kicks on via ac and 220° IIRC

I have mine running all the time....just hooked up a relay into the battery and have it switched on when the ignition is on.

I have one hooked into the ac relay / harness and one ran off a new relay on low constantly., I havent had the need to run the always on one due to the lack of heat so I just unhooked it.

However at the track / course it gets plugged in again to get things cool very fast with the ign on / car off. :)

Yeah i just hooked up the + to the battery through a fuse and the ground wire to a grounding point, with a switch in between. Originally, I used an adj. thermostatic switch, tapping power from the "on" wire in the ignition. I dont know why the instructions told me to do that-maybe i interpreted wrong. Anyway, after i turned the ignition off and pulled the key, things would seem to have a little power remaining, and then die out. Weird... i think the fan acted as a generator after i turned the car off. Now i know to use a relay if i ever do that : P

They sell a kit on http://www.jegs.com for 60 bucks everything you should need. I did what most people did on here was just get some wire and a switch. But I was also told that an electric fan would give feed back into the electrical system so you have to becareful on a later model car. I have mine on my 75 malibu so the only thing I had to worry about is the gage of wire and a strong switch.
