Hey everyone. So I went to the junk yard to day and picked up some Maxima fans to install in my 240. (I couldn't find any Altima ones). Now as the wiring for these up I was planning on using the stock electric A/C fan plug like the guy did here. http://www.240sxforums.com/forums/s14-2 ... -pics.html
I know I will have to change the plug out to work with the Maxima fan for it to work. One of my questions is if I do this when will this fan run? WIll it be on all the time or just when the AC is on. My second question is when wiring up the second fan I was planning on using a thermo switch. Something like this.

If I use this controller will I need to have another relay and fuse inline with the controller or will the relay that is built into the controller be sufficient protection?

Thanks in advanced.

That fan controller will work for one speed, but it works well. you cant overcool IMO but why are you getting away from the clutch fan?

The main reason that I'm getting rid of the clutch fan is for a cleaner engine bay and the extra room. There is also those couple of extra HP that I will gain.

And a larger loss of cooling.. Clutch fans move more air

It would be easier to wire the one fan to the stock connection and use an inline fuse (25amp) to run the second and ground it to the chassis. This way one is on when the key is turned on and the other runs with the stock presets. This is the same set up I'm running with no clutch fan in south Florida and it works
really well. The choice is up to you the way you want to run your car.

The thing that most people don't realize is that while the altima fans do an acceptable job cooling, they will butt rape the alternator with both fans running at low speed. I think I usually had about 13.2-13.5 volts day or night with them running, on 2 different alternators that both tested good.(with stock pulleys )

If you buy a perma-cool fan relay kit (no temp sensor) they come with universal instructions, there is an un-used ACC wire under the steering column (brown) you can use this to close the relay when ignition is on.

I was planning on using the stock connection if I could and they way that it looks like in the wiring diagram is that when the one fan is on low at when you first start the car and then the high speed kicks on at a predetermined temperature by the ECM. Would this be enough for just the basics and then have the second fan to come on high with a temperature probe at a certain degree or should I have the low on the other fan to come on with the other fan.
Would I be able to run a stronger alternator to compensate for the extra electrical draw if it becomes a problem?
OutToWIn: Is this one better than the one that I listed above?

The ecu doesn't turn on the fan at all unless the a/c is on or the coolant temp is above the predetermined set safe limits. So, if you use the factory plug the fans will not turn on until the coolant temp get to around 212* or the a/c is on, not exactly a good thing.

That is good to know. So it would be a good idea to hook the other fan up with low to come on when I start the car and the high with a thermo switch.
