well I was thinking of buying this fan, since its local

http://cgi.ebay.ca/16-inch-16-ELECTRIC- ... 4aa4dde544

Its 16" with a good cfm rating but I may buy 2 of his smaller 10" and mount them on the front as pusher fans and have the 16" on the back as a puller

What I dont quite understand in the TRIGGER part of them though, having them turn on when it should turn on etc, only way I would know if how to wire them into the ignition so if the car was running they would be on...

Any suggestions??

If you go electric the fans require 12V which puts more load on the alternator.
Fans must operate in their static pressure zone so be sure to know what external pressures are for your application.
Fans for this application are cooling a liquid to air exchanger, you must figure out the internal BTU content from the engine and the external temperatures. If you are in Florida compared to Northern Ontario the BTU is different.
What is maximum delta T for the exchanger as compared to operating temperature.
Most fans in this application must work before the engine is at temperature because temperature exchange takes time.
Your idea is good but the engineering has already been done. A/C, furnaces etc all use fans to control unwanted heat.
Contact ASHRAE, or any Heating and Cooling company for details

Did this ever come together for anyone? Is there possibly a writeup? I would think a successful electric fan conversion would be of great interest to most

Anybody watch the most recent episode of Wheeler Dealers (on Velocity)? They did an electric fan conversion on a Mini Moke. Used a same-size but "better quality" fan and stock shroud.

The stock system on these cars has proven to be both reliable and in the rare failure .........cheap to fix - the only benefit to the electric units is the potential difference on the highway.

To really understand this someone would have to determine the exact HP requirements of the fan at different loads and then compare the load on the alternator from the electric units. That would only give you the maximum potential difference ........the electric fans increase the drag across the radiator as they block the air flow more than the stock fans do sitting back and away from the fins.

Having played around with electric fans on older vehicle restorations I can tell you they don't often work the way you think they should.

One thing on the Pathfinders -- make sure the foam is installed between the radiator and the ac condenser ......... it only lasts a few years and the condenser is not up close to the radiator like many cars. This foam is important on hot days while driving in traffic with the AC on.

I know this is an old thread and the original authors may not even own their Pathfinders anymore but just to confirm, you ran with a 12" and 10" fan and never had issues with coolant temp? Are you using the Procomp fans? I think I could fit two 12" fans but Procomp rates their 12" fans at 1200-1450 pull CFMs so I'm worried 2400-2900 CFM's would leave me getting hot in the summer.

Input from anyone would be helpful.
