Electonic Ignition

Has anyone replaced the dual points with an electronic ignition setup on the PL521 with the 1600 engine? If so, how is it done, where do you get it, is it worth it, and many other questions that I just don't have the energy to type right now.

I did that on every L series engined car/truck I ever owned. I used the 79-80 620/720 L20B distributor with the E1280 module. It was also used on the 79 200SX and 510. It's a simple two wire hookup. You can also use the Pertronix kit. It worth it in that you don't have to deal with points anymore.

Hello,

I just installed Ele. Dist. from late model L20B on my 521 with L16. I also tested some NGK Iridium "IX" BPR5EIX-11 (-11 = .044" plug gap) spark plugs.

Blue test- PointsRed test- Ele dist.Green test- Ele. Dist with "IX" plugs
