hey guys been a while since i been here but i had a question about the elec fan setup i wired onto the car at one point. i dont want the whole clutch vs elec debate kicked off here as well just the wiring or troubleshooting ideas plz.

a couple yrs ago i odered an elec fan setup from Z1 i do beleive, this setup was the supposed to be the altima style. i placed it on the car, wired it in with a Jegs thermoststic control and also wired it to where i had override control either way. each time the fan(s) kicked on (i usually only let one run if sitting still) while idling it seemed like it almost killed the car. i shortly had my OEM alt rebuilt and then a new battery after putting the fans on. figured it was all a coincidence or one casued the other. my question is about wether the OEM alt on a 93 N/A at 80 amps is really strong enough to push all the electric demands of the car at idle? the fan were supposed to draw 30 combined if i remember correctly. after all that happened i went back to a clutch, my lights would always dim when hitting brakes and ac fan would also step down so i knew there was a problem somewhere. recently it was on my mind and stopped in at napa auto had the electric sys test done and it said had a diode open in the alt was charging 12.9 loaded an 13.3 unloaded. a few days later it went out on me completely and cannot be rebuilt...so new alt that seems to be doing better than the original was and is putting out much better voltage the question about this elec fan comes back to me.

has anyone else had to do anything to their N/A to get it to handle the amp/voltage draw, didnt know if a capacitor or anything along those lines was needed to help soften the sudden demand on the car when the fans hit.
the recent hr long wait in the tunnel at mobile AL make me really think about it when my AC started getting hot on me lol. any help or ideas is appreciated.

Are you sure the fans only pull 30 amps combined? Not sure what the total amp draw would be with the fans running, AC on, and head lights or tail lights (while braking), but it could be too much for the stock alternator to handle? I haven't heard of needing a capacitor to power electric fans.

im not for sure but i think that is what it said for them, i may be wrong. thats part of whay i was asking was to see if anyone else had this problem with their car as well. if not i guess it means i am doing something or have something set up wrong somewhere.

With my experience with the fans has been a journey. I opted for the Maxima dual speeds. I used the the the Z1 switch as well. I ran into the car cutting off on me while having the headlights (10K HIDs) along with the stereo on. It was explained to my by Ash of Ashspec Z that the Z was never intended to run a lot of accessories & was high apm efans. I opted for a TT alt. I have not had a problem since (knocking on wood). I know that's not answering your question, but that was my experience with the e fans.

Yeah you might just be better off getting a higher amp alternator and call it a day instead of trying to figure out how much amps everything is pulling combined

thanks guys, i appreciate it. i knew someone out there ha to have run int this as well, i was guessing that there just likely was not enough supply to meet demands, thanks for the responses! helps me feel i am headed in the right direction. as it turns out they are maxima fans and most of maximas i have looked up have had 90 amp alts.
